il-info
    Contact: il-info-request@han.paramax.com

Purpose: Discussion of Interactive Literature and the activities
of the Interactive Literature Foundation (ILF). The purpose of
the Interactive Literature Foundation is to study and promote all
forms of Interactive Literature, defined as any kind of narrative
in which a participatory process between the author or performer
and the reading, viewing, or attending audience determines or
influences the plot of the story.

Much of the current discussion on the list concerns Live-Action
Role Playing Games, which evolved out of improvisational theatre,
conventional role-playing games, and complex "assassin"-type
games. A typical game might involve thirty to eighty players
taking the part of characters in a situation, with network of
interconnecting motivations that provide the driving force for the
action in the game. Live games have a small set of rules that
simulate activities that would be impractical or unsafe to play
out, and to simulate abilities of the character that the player
may not possess. The majority of play consists of interacting
with the other players "in character" to accomplish your
character's goals and discover new ones. Games have been run with
science fiction, fantasy, historical, and literary themes, as well
as others that are difficult to classify.

The mailing list is not limited to discussion of live games, and
is open to discussion of anything that might be considered
Interactive Literature. This list is not moderated.

Subscribe to il-info to find out about events in your area, and
participate in or listen to discussion on writing good interactive
listerature and the pros and cons of different styles. Il-info
can also provide information on how to join the Interactive
Literature Foundation, and the benefits of membership.
