Remember, remember 11 September; Murderous monsters in flight; Reject their dark game; And let Liberty's flame; Burn prouder and ever more bright
- Geoffrey Barto

"Bjørn Stærks hyklerske dobbeltmoral er til å spy av. Under det syltynne fernisset av redelighet sitter han klar med en vulkan av diagnoser han kan klistre på annerledes tenkende mennesker når han etter beste evne har spilt sine kort. Jeg tror han har forregnet seg. Det blir ikke noe hyggelig under sharia selv om han har slikket de nye herskernes støvlesnuter."

Posts, September 2003:

The Moore/Coulter effect: The Progress Party gets the rough media treatment today for a suggestion by immigration spokesman Per Sandberg that asylum seekers should be tagged with an electronic device, attached to the wrist or ancle, so they won't disappear while their applications [...]

Failed terrorist attempt: Almost missed this story for lack of coverage: There was a terrorist attempt against an airplane on route to Norway on Wednesday. A 33-year-old Arab appeared in a court here on charges of trying to open a jet door at [...]

Oprah, American propaganda tool: I've criticized the Norwegian Ministry of Culture for abusing its power over broadcasters, but at least this could not happen in Norway, (via Andrew Sullivan): Sweden's broadcasting watchdog says it is censuring an Oprah Winfrey talk show for showing bias [...]

New webhost?: I've been using PHPWebhosting to host this website for over a year now, without much trouble. But the last couple of weeks the server has been unstable, is often slow, and sometimes completely unavailable for hours. (Curiously, their main page [...]

Possible revote in Oslo: There are some disturbing similarities between the US presidential election of 2000 and the local election in Oslo on Monday. Coincidence or conspiracy? You decide: Bush won the election by one state. The non-socialist block in Oslo won majority of [...]

Charity begins, ends at home: You'll all be glad to hear that Norway continues to fight the good fight for the world's poor. No diplomatic tool shall be left unused, no budgetary consideration stand in the way as we stand shoulder by shoulder in a [...]

A right, not a duty: Norway holds local elections today, and Aftenposten repeats the truism that voter turnout indicates the health and vitality of a democracy, and encourages all its readers to perform their duty. Not only is it important that everyone votes, it is, [...]

Terrorists and booksellers: Jordan has charged Krekar and 14 other people, most of them currently residing in Iran, with planning terrorist attacks against US and Israeli targets, in close cooperation with al-Qaeda. [Prosecutor Col. Mahmoud Obeidat] alleges that Iraqi Najm al-Din Faraj Ahmad, [...]

Don't worry, be happy: To commemorate the second anniversary of September 11, 2001, Aftenposten brings in a renowned expert from Brussel to tell its readers not to worry: They're not after us. The split between the US and Europe is not only over views [...]

Norway's BBC: You could translate most of this Daily Telegraph piece into Norwegian, exchange "BBC" with "NRK", and publish it in one of our own newspapers, and the criticism would be just as valid (and much more sorely needed): The BBC's mental [...]

A meaningful alternative: Swallowing Norway's opposition to the liberation of Iraq, and its peculiar ideas about what the real threat to world security is, (hint: it's not American unilateralism), would be easier if we represented a meaningful alternative view on global issues, something [...]

How journalists vote: Dagbladet makes a big deal out of a survey MMI has conducted about where people believe hosts of popular TV debate programs stand politically. See, MMI refuses to divulge who they're performing the survey for, which makes this a secret [...]

School elections: As a lesson in democracy, Norway holds nationwide pretend elections in all its high schools. The results are unreliable - when I participated in, hm, 1995, all the high schools in my area were swayed by a powerful Christian People's [...]

Ansar al-Islam responsible for UN bomb: A former Ansar al-Islam member claims to TV2 Nettavisen that the group, now under a new leadership, was behind the UN headquarter bombing in Baghdad: - Ansar al-Islam is divided. A number of the former members of the organisation, who [...]

Al-Qaeda is watching: I don't like this: Danish-Moroccan terrorist suspect Said Mansour was arrested last week after being observed photographing security installations and emergency exits on a DFDS (The United Steamship Company) passenger ferry to Oslo, Danish newspapers report. Shipping line DFDS confirmed [...]

Zambian roses: Aftenposten's Simen Sætre was last mentioned in this blog when he moved to Denmark, and mistook it for Berlin '34. Now he and Daniel Nkalamo are onto something even more sinister: A conspiracy by those uppity Africans to make cheap [...]

Denmark's Pia Kjærsgaard may be many things, but is she a racist? Well, their Supreme Court says it's ok to call her that, so I suppose she must be, or the Independent supposes that anyhow, and warns the Tories to keep a distance.

Richard Miniter lists the evidence of a Saddam-al-Qaeda connection, indicating contact and mutual respect if not cooperation. His data on Krekar is outdated and spurious, though, (was Ansar territory really loyal to Saddam?), which may reflect overall unreliability.

Michael Radu at FrontpageMag has a fairly good summary of the Krekar case and wonders, if this is how Norway treats a wanted terrorist, what can the US expect from less reliable allies like France and Germany? One clarification: Krekar is under investigation of various offences, but the terrorism charge has been dropped and he's not in detention.
